Most people recognize Fisher Island in South Florida as the exclusive neighborhood near Miami Beach which is home to celebrities like Latin pop star Ricky Martin. The island may be famous for being one of the wealthiest in the country and being inaccessible through vehicular means yet if you were to ask someone why they would live in a neighborhood that secludes them from the city, chances are they’ll tell you it’s Fisher Island’s resort-like feel.
Golf courses tend to be popular among people staying at a resort or condo and Fisher Island facilitates this by having one right on the island and thus removing the need to head off to the courses of Miami Beach in order to enjoy the sport. Tennis is also available and the court is professional (and popular) enough to have names like Steffi Graf and multiple Grand Slam champion Pete Sampras play on its courts.
Fisher Island’s resort appeal is also evident in that the island is not bordered by land mass of any kind, thus allowing residents and guests who stay at the Fisher Island Beach Club the closest thing to the experiences only found in islands like Antigua or Jamaica in the Caribbean. Even Miami Beach’s other wealthy island neighborhoods like Star Island have a road of some kind leading out to the city.
While Fisher Island has the amenities to give it a resort-like vibe, the neighborhood’s biggest attraction continues to be the luxury homes and villas owned by the well to do that comprise Fisher Island real estate. As a result, Fisher Island is a wealthy community which combines privacy, entertainment and a waterfront experience to create a resort experience while still functioning as the upscale neighborhood it’s always been.
