TS Fay uppdate for Fisher Island
Updated: Thursday, July 29, 2010
Good morning:
Fay blew through last evening, and while the island is a mess from palm frond debris, we have had no real damage. Your ferry system ran continuously, and is running on schedule today. The Barge out of the Port of Miami is not operating, but only because the Port decided to close last night at 6 p.m. We are awaiting word from them on what time they will re-open today.
All of us should take a moment this week to thank Jim Politis and his team of Captains, Deck Hands, Mechanics and Top Side Maintenance for their outstanding performance. Our Marine Operations are so good that all of us take the team for granted. In fact, were our team not considered so outstanding by the United States Coast Guard, we would not be operating our system. And we should express our appreciation to our Access Control Officers at Terminal Island, and our Public Safety Officers on Fisher Island, for their hard work under difficult, very wet, very windy conditions. Sometimes we take for granted that these individuals spend their entire 8 hour shift working in strong winds and heavy rain.
Our wonderful Landscaping Department is hard at work today, also in the wind and rain, doing their clean-up of the island. We will do everything we can, as quickly as we can.
Thank you all for your patience during these events, and for your words of support.
