Fisher Island Reef Relief
Updated: Thursday, July 29, 2010
On Sunday June 29, about 15 volunteers from Miami and 1O Fisher Island residents showed up for our 1st Annual "SAVE OUR REEF EVENT".
Each of us walked along the jettys and beach picking up debris in and out of the water.
Volunteers found items such as yards of tangled lines, wood, bottles, parts of boats, lipsticks, aluminum cans and much more.
Over 20 large black garbage bags of debris were collcted and removed from the beachfront. First prize for most debris collected went to our resident, Richard Tuch. The Island Insiders own Don Pingaro and Robert Vole and their wives assisted in the cause.
Gary Levine, President and visonary of "SAVE OUR REEFS", along with Carl and Victoria Olsen, spearheaded the volunteers on behalf of CORAL REEF 101, a non profit foundation founded to save our reefs....we were delighted with the results!!
All the participants enjoyed a wondeful day at the beach and a good deed for our ocean along with all Fisher Island members.
We look forward to our annual event next year with many more residents participating in this wonderful environmantal program to save our reefs.
