Fisher Island Fly Fishing School
Updated: Thursday, July 29, 2010

Are you interested in learning how to Saltwater Fly Fish from the "Pros"?

If you are, we have put together an excellent saltwater fly fishing program for our Members. The instructors have helped hundreds of men and women, from newcomers to seasoned angling veterans, to learn successful techniques that were developed over decades of angling in the Florida Keys.

A couple of days at the Fisher Island Club Saltwater Fly Fishing School is the best investment you can make in saltwater fly fishing. You will leave the school with skills, knowledge and confidence that would usually take months or even years of trial and error to acquire.

Saltwater fly fishing is the most challenging and rewarding form of angling on the planet. We have put together a great staff of knowledgeable instructors who will teach simple and light methods in casting, along with field exercises, slide presentations and classroom explanation. Whatever your reason for joining us, the school sessions are targeted to be entertaining and, most importantly, instructional!

Due to limited class size, we suggest you respond and confirm enrollment as soon as possible. Assuming there is sufficient interest, we will develop a wait list and can schedule an additional school session.

We look forward to seeing you at the Fisher Island Club Saltwater Fly Fishing School during the weekend of March 13th through the 15th, 2009.

A2. What will we do during the weekend?

A3. How many members will there be in class?

Classes can vary from about 15 to 20 with no more than five students casting with an instructor.

A4. Do I need to bring equipment?

Not really, the Miami Fly Shop and our instructors have state of the art rods for casting and all the training aids you will need. If you have a 7, 8 or 9 weight outfit you want to bring that's fine too and it will help you learn how to better use your own equipment.

A5. How difficult is casting and can I learn?

Fly casting consists of making repetitive strokes, developing muscle memory and using your eye hand coordination. Anglers have varying learning curves, but if you can hit a tennis ball or swing a golf club you can fly cast.

A6. Can I just charter a guide and go fly fishing?

Yes, but you may encounter a lot of frustrations and additional expenses. Learning to false cast could be compared to hitting a golf ball. You would first learn to swing on the driving range before actually playing the game. When you are in a boat there are many distractions to compete with your focus on learning the actual casting stroke. Many guides are fantastic casters but teaching is another thing altogether and our instructors are among the finest and are very experienced. After a weekend at the Fisher Island Saltwater Fly Fishing School you will be fly casting or will have greatly improved your existing casting skills. You will also have a very good idea how to continue to improve and maximize your enjoyment of the sport, which is most important in order to continue to advance and enjoy Saltwater Fly Fishing.

A7. What are the school costs?

The cost for the two-day Introduction to Saltwater Fly Fishing School is $750 per person, which includes two evening receptions with the instructors, all instruction and classes during two full days of school, the use of equipment for casting and all training aids, continental breakfasts and lunches on school days.

A8. Will we fish during the school and what if I want to fish afterwards?

There is no fishing during the school, but we can put you in contact with local guides that are available after the school. Guide fees range from $550.00 to $600.00 per day and we suggest you request a guide list when you register for the school. You must coordinate your own guide.

A9. Can a guest accompany a member?

Yes, guest attending with members are allowed as long as they don't bump a Member from attending. If there is sufficient interest other Saltwater Fly Fishing School(s) can be scheduled.

Q9. Can a guest accompany a member?
